The Langdale Half and Full Marathon are iconic tests of endurance, featuring rolling hills, breathtaking scenery, and some steeper, tougher climbs. Adequate and calculated fuelling can make the difference between a smooth run and hitting the wall.

With VOOM Nutrition, you can fuel your race, using Fusion Fuel, Hydrate Smart, Rapid Recovery and the ultra-portable Pocket Rockets.

Start Strong:

Breakfast 2–3 hours before the race should be high in carbohydrates, moderate in protein, and low in fat and fibre. Toast with Jam or honey, banana and porridge are all popular choices thanks to their strong carb content.

The 2-3 hours gives the body time to digest your breakfast but an extra carb top up around 20 to 30 minutes before the start will ensure you're feeling ready to run on the start line. We recommend 1-2 pieces of a VOOM Pocket Rocket, particularly the Beta Blast, with Beta Alanine fighting lactic acid build up and 100mg of caffeine (per full bar) to give you a mental and physical lift.

Tip: If you struggle to eat a large breakfast, VOOM Fusion Fuel carb drink is an easy, alternative way to maximise the body's carb stores without having to eat a large meal.

During the Race: Steady Energy Without Gels

One serving of VOOM Fusion Fuel provides sustained 90g of carbohydrates, while Pocket Rockets offer a quick, chewable energy boost you can carry in your pocket.

  • Half Marathon: Aim for around 60g of carbs per hour which might look like a serving of Fusion Fuel spread over two hours and then a piece of a Pocket Rocket every 30 minutes or so. If using just Pocket Rockets for energy we'd recommend a piece roughly every 15 minutes.

  • Full Marathon: Aim for 60 to 90g of carbohydrate which could be from Pocket Rockets eaten little and often, or with Fusion Fuel which can deliver up to 90g of carbs per hour if you take on 1 serving per hour

Tip: Pocket Rockets easily break up into 4 small portions to help maintain stomach comfort. Taking a minute or two to chew slowly, or let the bar melt in the mouth, can increase speed of energy delivery to the muscles as some glucose can be absorbed through the gums directly into the blood stream, by-passing the stomach altogether.

Hydration: Replace What You Sweat

VOOM Hydration Smart Formula makes it easy to replace electrolytes: drop one sachet into 500ml or 750ml of water and sip throughout the race. Alternate plain water and electrolyte drinks to stay hydrated and support muscle function. Fusion Fuel also offers a strong electrolyte hit to replace your losses, so if you're using this for your energy, it will look after your hydration too!

Tip: If the weather is warmer than expected, increase hydration frequency and pair with a Pocket Rocket Electro Energy for an energy + electrolyte boost.

Post-Race Recovery: Refuel and Repair

VOOM Rapid Recovery is ideal post-race to replenish glycogen stores and support muscle repair. Mix with milk or water and aim to drink within 30 minutes of finishing to kickstart muscle repair and glycogen replenishment.

Tip: Keep a VOOM RecoverFudge in your bag post-race for a quick carb and protein hit if you’re still on the move or waiting for friends to finish.
