VOOM Nutrition are really excited to partner with the Great Run Company for their inaugural 13 Valleys Ultra event this year. In partnership with the Lake District National Park this event has ambitions to showcase all that is wonderful about the Lakes in a sustainable way. With 5% of each entry being donated to the Lake District Foundation the 13 Valleys is helping ensure the Lakes, which happens to be very close to our heart (and physical HQ), remains protected for future generations to enjoy!
What is the 13 Valleys Ultra?
The 13 Valleys Ultra is a brand new ultra running event taking place in The Lake District between the 29th September and 1st October 2023. The event is essentially a grand tour of the Lake District National Park showcasing the very best of the lakes with 3 ultra distance routes (180km, 100km, 60km) and a 20km trail event to choose from.
How far is the 13 Valleys Route?
The full 13 Valleys Ultra route follows the designated 13 valleys route touring the lakes, covering 180km and 7000m of elevation. If 180km sounds just that bit too far the alternative routes include the 7 Valleys Ultra which takes in 100 km of lakeland trails and 3,800m of vert, the 5 Valleys (60km with 2,500m) and the supporting 2 Valleys event which is 20km with 500m climbing.
What are the 13 Valleys of the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site?
The Lake District National Park was granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2017 and UNESCO highlights the 13 constituent valleys each with a uniqueness but enjoying an overarching pattern and system of land usage. The 13 Valleys Ultra visits each of these valleys in turn from Borrowdale & Bassenthwaite through Buttermere, Ennerdale, Wasdale, Eskdale, Duddon, Coniston, Windermere, The Grasmere Rydal Valley, Haweswater, Ullswater, and Thirlmere before returning to Keswick.
