What is a carbohydrate drink?

A carbohydrate drink, sometimes called a sports drink, is simply a drink that contains carbohydrates, and sometimes other ingredients such as electrolytes and vitamins. Fusion Fuel is a high carb drink designed for replenishing carbs in the body during prolonged intense exercise.

When should I use a carbohydrate drink?

A carb drink can be a convenient way to replenish carbs during exercise or boost carb intake prior to exercise. It is recommended to consume some carbohydrate during exercise lasting over around 60 minutes; around 30-60g carbs per hour can be effective for durations last 1-3 hours, but at higher intensities, or for durations lasting over 2.5 hours, 60-90g per hour is recommended.

Whats the difference between a carb drink and an electrolyte drink?

A carbohydrate drink, which may contain electrolytes, has the primary aim of getting carbohydrate into the body. Conversely, an electrolyte drink will be focuses on hydrating the body, and therefore will include electrolytes but may or may not contain carbs.

When should I use Fusion Fuel?

Fusion Fuel is intended for moderate to high intensity exercise lasting upwards of around 2.5 hours. This means Fusion is one of the best energy drinks for marathon, half and full ironman and cycling road races and sportive's, to name a few. For activity lasting longer than 2.5 to 3 hours you need to consume 60-90g of carbohydrates per hour to maintain performance and Fusion delivers this in one serving of drink.

How can I take on 90g of carbs without stomach issues?

Fusion Fuel allows a high carb intake whilst maintaining stomach comfort in several ways. Firstly, one of the carbohydrate sources is cluster dextrin, also called highly branched cyclic dextrin, which has been shown to enhance gastric emptying; this means it moves from the stomach to the small intestine more quickly, reducing risk of bloating or stomach upset, and starting the absorption process more quickly. Secondly the optimal 1 : 0.8 ratio of dextrin to fructose used in many leading high carbohydrate drinks, which utilises both glucose and fructose pathways of absorption through the small intestine, to absorb more energy per minute/hour.

Ingredients

Directions

Add contents of sachet (93g) to 500-750ml water and shake well. For best result, half fill a bottle, add powder and shake thoroughly, then top up bottle with water and shake again. Aim to consume up to 1 serving per hour to deliver up to 90g carbs per hour. More fluid may be required in hot conditions to maintain hydration.
